Rescue under way after SUV falls into Shambhavi riverMANGALURU: The SUV in which a family were on their way to attend a wedding plunged into a river from the Shankalakariya bridge near Karkala on Saturday.
One of the occupants inside the vehicle was killed on the spot, while three others sustained severe injuries.
The deceased is Diana Mascarehnas, 45.
The incident occurred when Stany Mascarehas from Bola Village in Karkala taluk along with wife Diana and two children were on their way to attend a wedding in Mangaluru.
Stany, who was driving, lost control while nearing the Sankalakariya bridge across the river Shambhavi, after which the vehicle plunged into the river.
Locals who were present at the spot swung into action and rescued three of the occupants from the vehicle. A case has been registered in this regard.
