Child suffers spinal injury after diving into lake on Fraser Island
A child suffering from a suspected spinal injury will be airlifted to hospital after diving into a lake on Fraser Island.
The girl, under the age of 10, had dived off an embankment and into the water at Lake Wabby about 12.40pm on Sunday when she sustained the injury to her back.
Paramedics are with the girl as they wait for the rescue helicopter to arrive.
This is the second diving incident since Saturday that had been reported to Queensland Ambulance Service.
A QAS crew, including critical-care paramedics on board, was called to a private residence at Kippa-Ring in the Moreton Bay just before midnight on Saturday to a diving incident.
A man in his 20s was taken to the Princess Alexandra Hospital in a serious but stable condition with a suspected spinal cord injury after he reportedly dived into a pool from a three metre balcony.
A QAS spokesman urged swimmers to be aware of their surroundings and take caution when diving.
