NEW DELHI: In a freak incident of road rage, a Senegal national bit off a part of a man’s cheek in outer Delhi’s Nihal Vihar on Wednesday night. The accused had allegedly brushed past the victim on his scooty and got enraged when asked to drive slowly.
DCP (outer) Seju Kuruvilla said that the accused, Ba Ousseynou, has been booked for causing hurt by dangerous means. Later, it was found that his visa had expired and he was charged under the Foreigners Act as well.
The victim, Jitender, who works in a pathological lab, said that he had gone to buy dinner from a nearby restaurant. He was walking back when the scooty brushed past him. “I told the man to drive slowly, but he grabbed my collar. I also grabbed his collar after which he chewed off a part of my cheek,” he added.
Ousseynou tried to escape, but was nabbed by passersby. The beat staff patrolling nearby took the accused to the police station where he allegedly misbehaved as well.
Jitender was rushed to a nearby hospital where doctors suggested surgery to sew the chewed off patch. Police are trying to contact the Senegal consulate to get more details about the accused. They are also checking his paperwork to ascertain his duration of stay here. CCTV footage is being scanned to ascertain the sequence of events. A probe is on to find out if Ousseynou was under the influence of any intoxicants.
