Social security scheme beneficiaries have a reason to cheer this Sankranti. Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has announced the doubling of their monthly pension to ₹2,000 as festival gift.
Amid loud cheers, Mr. Naidu announced at the Janmabhoomi - Maa Vooru meeting at Bogole village in the district that the “pensioners will be given ₹3,000, which includes arrears of ₹1,000 for January in February and ₹2,000 every month from March.”
The government’s decision would benefit over 54 lakh persons drawing 12 types of pension.
“I have taken this decision moved by the plight of the pensioners, who are struggling to meet their medical and other expenses,” Mr. Naidu said.
“I will work hard to generate wealth by overcoming the resource crunch being faced by the State in order to wipe the tears and usher in happiness in the lives of the poor as their eldest son,” Mr. Naidu said.
