Rajasthan HC allows kid to decide nationality on turning 18

JAIPUR: Rajasthan High Court on Friday settling a custody dispute involving an NRI father and an Indian mother allowed the child to decide on his nationality after he attains the age of 18 while refusing custody to the father.
“The child is now 10 years old and he could choose his nationality on became a major,” the court ordered.
The state and Central governments should not come in the way of the child’s choice of nationality, court said.
The court allowed the father to visit his son once in three months while allowing the custody of the child to his mother till 18 years who is living in Ajmer. The division bench of M Rafiq and Goverdhan Bardhar gave the order dismissing the habeas corpus and contempt petition filed by father Navin Sharma. The court said the father could also keep in touch with his son through video conference on every fortnight on second and fourth Sunday for half an hour. The court said that the NRI father had to make available the gadgets like Mac Book and Rs 1,000 for dongle while directed the mother not to interfere during their conversation.
