Trump Administration Announces Closure of Texas Tent Camp

On Friday, the  Trump administration  announced that it would close a tent camp in Tornillo, Texas after releasing the last of the migrant children that were being held there to their sponsors.

Since it opened  last June , about 5,500 of the 6,200 children who have entered the camp have been placed with sponsors.

700 other children have been moved to different sites while awaiting sponsorship.

The Tornillo camp had recently come under fire over its safety and health conditions after a federal watchdog group raised concerns.

The temporary shelter was opened on federal land to house children who came across the southwest border unaccompanied.

At its peak, nearly 3,000 children stayed there.
