2 mishaps reported from Khan Market within a span of a few hours

A 59-year-old man was killed while six others left injured in three separate road accidents in New Delhi on Friday, the police said.

The first accident was reported at 11.16 a.m. on Prithviraj Road, they said.

They received a PCR call regarding an accident at Q-point near the cemetery in Khan Market. On reaching the spot, they found a parked private bus and one broken bicycle.

“The locals informed them that two people were injured in the accident. They had taken one of them to AIIMS Trauma Centre while the other victim was taken to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital by the police,” said an officer.

Rajendra Prasad was declared brought dead by doctors at AIIMS trauma centre while the injured person, also identified as Rajendra, is said to be critical.

Prasad, a New Delhi Municipal Council employee, worked as a gardener while the injured person was his helper.

During investigation, the police found that both the victims were posted at NDMC enquiry office in Khan Market and were on the way to office on a bicycle when a bus ferrying schoolchildren hit them.

“After hitting the bicycle, the bus driver fled the spot. The bus was taken on rent by Sarvodaya Kanya Vidyalaya, Burari, for a trip to Lotus Temple. A case under relevant Indian Penal Code sections has been registered at Tughlak Road against the bus driver. Teams are making efforts to trace and arrest the accused driver,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (New Delhi) Madhur Verma.

Within a span of a few hours, the same spot witnessed another accident. At 2.15 p.m., the police received a call stating that a cab was hit by a minibus at Q-point in Khan Market.

The minibus coming from Prithviraj Road hit the cab coming from Shahjahan Road towards Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Road at Q-point, the police said.

“A woman, who was on the way to her workplace in Gurugram, was in the cab when the accident happened. She escaped unhurt,” said an officer.

A traffic policeman on duty at Q-point said it is an accident-prone area.

The drivers’ pass through the Q-point rashly, which cause the accidents.

Third road crash

The third road accident was reported from Janpath when one car suddenly applied brakes to avert a mishap following which five cars piled up, the police said. Three occupants of one car received minor bruises. The car owners refused to register any complaint, the police added.
