HISAR: Hisar Police on Thursday registered a criminal case against 11members of a village committee, including a representative of the Prabhuwala village sarpanch, for announcing the eviction of the family members of a man who married a woman from the same village.
Station house officer of Ukalana police station said the case was registered on the complaint of Sohan Lal, the groom’s father, under various sections of the Indian Penal Code. He said among those booked are sarpanch’s representative Parminder Singh, local Congress leader Thakur Balbir Ajmera and labourers’ leader Rajkumar Bedi among others.
The complainant’s son had eloped with a 24-year-old scheduled caste woman on December 21 and married her later. Ukalana police had registered a missing case under Section 346 (wrongful confinement) of the IPC on the complaint of the woman’s father. It turned out later that the couple had married.
The couple had returned to the village later, but were shifted to a secret location outside the village due to tension between the two families. The tension had escalated, with the family members of the man attacking those of the woman’s family. A police complaint was filed but the panchayat had worked out a compromise. A meeting of the panchayat was held under the leadership of Parminder Singh on Sunday and the eviction of the man’s family from the village was announced.
