PATNA: Five people, including three assistant engineers, were arrested here in the wee hours of Saturday for consuming liquor. The police arrested the five after intercepting a car near Hartali Mor under the Kotwali police station area around 2.30am.

SHO of Kotwali police station Ramshankar Singh said the arrested engineers were identified as Abhay Singh (29), Manish Singh (33) and Luv Kumar Nath (46), all associated with a private firm which works for the energy department in the state.

“The two other arrested people were identified as Amrish Kumar (24) and Dharmendra Rajak (35),” the SHO said, adding Abhay and Luv were posted at Biharsharif and Manish at Darbhanga.

Though police sources said Amrish had identified himself as nephew of a former MP in an attempt to influence the police personnel, the SHO has not confirmed it. He said the five had consumed liquor at someone’s house on Boring Road and were returning to their respective destinations when their vehicle was intercepted by the police.

“The five were tested positive in breathalyser test following which the police arrested them. The arrested people were later sent to jail. The five had come to Patna to attend a meeting of the energy department,” the SHO said, adding no liquor bottle was recovered from the vehicle.

Singh said Abhay and Luv are residents of Bhainsasur village in Nalanda district while Manish hails from Birla Colony at Phulwarisharif in Patna. “Amrish is a resident of Mokama and Dharmendra hails from Adalatganj in Patna district,” he added.
