THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A few days after KSRTC improved its revenue record with a collection of Rs 8.54 crore on January 7, the transport corporation has devised an ambitious plan to improve its daily collection by a sum of Rs 1 crore. The previous highest revenue collection was Rs 8.50 crore, which was received on February 19, 2018. At present, the average daily fare collection of KSRTC is Rs 6-6.5 crore.
A meeting of all 92 KSRTC unit heads - along with head of mechanical and administrative wing - was convened by KSRTC CMD Tomin J Thachankary on Friday. The aim of the meeting was to form an action plan to achieve the set target.
The action plan, sources said, will be implemented from January 16. As per the action plan, a total of eight buses will be allotted to each inspector, who will be responsible for route planning, assigning crew, generating revenue, addressing passenger complaints, maintenance and cleanliness of the bus.
"It is noticed that deployment of inspectors is not based on the number of buses in a unit, which will be regularized with this action plan. And, inspectors in other units will be transferred to those units where there is manpower shortage," said Thachankary.
A directive was issued to all unit officers to allot buses to inspectors. In addition to inspectors, senior officials have been given additional charge to ensure effective management of bus schedule.
Replacement of faulty ETM (electronic ticketing machine), stopping operation services without much passenger patronage, allotting new feasible routes to idle buses and ensuring punctuality are some of the responsibilities of these officials. These officials will also inform passengers about cancellation of reserved service, six hours prior to the schedule.
The plan proposes to ensure operation of 6,200 buses from KSRTC's fleet of 6,400 and revenue loss - due to service cancellation - will be recovered from officials concerned if it is a case of negligence on their part.
