Two more held for Mullanpur carjacking

MOHALI: Police have arrested two more accused in the Mullanpur carjacking case, taking the total number of arrests to four.

The accused have been identified as Amandeep Singh, a resident of Mehrouli village, and Jagjeet Singh, a resident of Shekhpur village. They also ran a gym along with the other two accused arrested earlier. A local court has remanded the two in three-day police custody.

On November 27, four miscreants had robbed a 26-year-old man of his car at gunpoint on the Chandigarh-Baddi road, near Mullanpur barrier.

Amandeep Singh, a resident of Haripur Sondela village, Himachal Pradesh, was driving home from his salon at Sector 40 C, Chandigarh, when the incident took place. A case under Sections 392 (punishment for robbery) and 341 (punishment for wrongful restraint) of the IPC and Sections 25, 27, 54 and 59 of Arms Act had been registered at the Mullanpur police station.


On November 29, police had succeeded in recovering the silver-coloured Maruti Swift car in which the robbers came and the white Maruti Swift car of the victim. Police had rounded up the owner of the car, Himant Singh, a resident of Ropar. He had told cops that his relative had taken his car on the pretext of work.


On December 7, police arrested Himant Singh and Inderpreet Singh, alias Binder, a resident of Paintpur, near Mullanpur. They all run a gym near Mullanpur.


Mullanpur station house officer (SHO) Rajesh Asteer said they have taken three day remand of accused and presently they are interrogating them.
