Six more monkeys were found dead in different places of Udupi district on Saturday. With this, the total number of deaths since January 8 has gone up to 17.

Rohini, District Health and Family Welfare Officer, told The Hindu that one monkey each was found dead near Kandlur, Byndoor-Ganganadu, Brahmavar, Belve, Kukkehalli, and Belve. The post-mortem of four monkeys has been done and samples have been sent to the Viral Diagnostic Centre in Shivamogga.

So far, no person has tested positive for KFD in the district, Dr. Rohini said.

The Health Department is conducting awareness programmes in places where the monkey deaths have been reported, she said.

Meanwhile, sources at Kasturba Hospital in Manipal said here on Saturday that 69 patients suspected with KFD from in and around Sagar in Shivamogga district have been admitted to the hospital here. Of these, 25 had tested positive while 40 were negative. The reports of four persons were awaited. As many as 50 persons had been discharged after getting treatment, while 19 were availing treatment at the hospital. No death has been reported owing to KFD, sources said.
