BHUBANESWAR: Around two lakh children in Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Puri and Rourkela will now get eggs in mid-day meal from Saturday. These children were not getting eggs because Akshay Patra Foundation- the NGO that served MDM to these schools believes in vegetarianism.

However, in November 2018, the NGO agreed to pay for the eggs instead of cooking it in its three central kitchens that serves food in 1980 schools across the state.

“We got many requests from parents to serve eggs in the MDM. Since the NGO did not agree we come out with an agreement that the NGO will not supply boiled eggs to schools directly, instead the school managements will provide the boiled eggs and Akshaya Patra will bear the cost,” said nodal officer of MDM, Gangadhar Sahoo.
