Lending a helping hand to the flood-hit people of Wayanad district, California-based Kerala Muslim Community Association (KMCA) in partnership with Daya Rehabilitation Trust is planning to build 15 houses for the homeless in Panamaram panchayat.
The functionaries of KMCA and Daya told the media here that they had purchased nearly an acre, and that the houses would be built using pre-fabricated construction materials.
“We will take the help of Panamaram panchayat officials to pick up the most deserving beneficiaries without any discrimination on the basis of religion or caste,” said E.T.V. Asif, president, KMCA.
He added that his organisation had raised funds for the project from NRIs in California.
Shabeer Ali, another functionary of the association, said it had also hosted a food fest which was attended by around 2,000 persons to mobilise money for the Chief Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund. “The new project in Wayanad will be a token of our love for all who respect religious harmony,” he added.
Mohammed Rafeek and T.I. Nasser, office-bearers of Daya Rehabilitation Trust, said they had already built 180 houses in various districts of Kerala and Karnataka to help flood victims.
In Karnataka, people who faced the impact of floods in Kodagu district were the main beneficiaries, they added.
