Three killed in accident on Yamuna Expressway near Mathura

AGRA: At least three persons, including a teenager were killed and about a dozen others injured in a road accident on Yamuna expressway in Mathura district on Saturday early morning.

The accident occurred after a speeding rented hatchback with five person rammed into bus which had toppled over the Expressway moment before. According to private concessioner who is responsible for operating Yamuna Expressway claimed, that the accident occurred at around 12:45 am near milestone 92/300 of Mannt police jurisdiction, just two kilometre away from toll.


Speaking to TOI, sub-inspector Shiv Vir Singh, in-charge of toll plaza outpost said, “A private bus ferrying nearly 40 passengers from Mainpuri to national capital, turned turtle after its driver lost control on steering wheel. One passenger was killed nearly a dozen were injured in the accident. Moment later, a speeding hatchback hit the toppled bus, killing two occupants and injuring three of a family.”


The deceased has been identfied as Jagatram (43) of Fatehpur village in Kannauj district. He was traveling in the bus to Delhi. The other two persons killed in the accident are Raj Kishore Yadav (35) resident of Badarpur Border and his son Pranshu Yadav (11), who were returning from Etawah in a rented car after attending funeral of a relative.


In the accident, Raj’s wife Reema, his son Gautam and driver Zeshan were gravely injured who were taken to hospital along with dozen other passengers injured after bus topple over.


After the accident, the private bus driver fled away from the spot. Officer Shiv Vir Singh said, “It seems that bus driver was accelerating over the permissible limit after crossing the toll, which subsequently caused the accident. Since every injured person is in hospital, a written complaint is yet to be received to lodge an FIR.”
