THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Senior Congress leader AK Antony did not mince words on Friday when he told party workers in Thiruvananthapuram that the Congress has realised that it is not strong enough to take on the BJP single-handedly in the ensuing Lok Sabha election.
“Congress alone cannot bring down Narendra Modi from power. But still, Congress is the crucial force to lead the campaign to oust Modi from power. Hence, Congress is looking for a broader alliance to defeat the BJP,” Antony said, while addressing the general body of the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee here on Friday.
Rahul Gandhi, Antony said, has evolved as a strong leader to take on Modi and is now capable of putting up a brave fight. “That is why Modi fears Rahul,” he added.

Antony also asked state Congress leaders to end the practice of selecting candidates for elections at the last minute. “The decision has to come from the district committees. The selection should be made in a democratic way rather than decided by a few leaders,” he said.
