Chairman of The Hindu Group of Publications N. Ram handed over a demand draft for ₹1,26,99,204 that readers and employees of The Hindu had contributed towards relief and rehabilitation of people affected by Cyclone Gaja, to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami, at his camp office in Chennai on Friday.
Cyclone Gaja, which hit several districts of Tamil Nadu in mid-November 2018, claimed 52 lives and caused immense damage to farms and property across a wide swathe.
The Hindu had made an appeal through its columns for contributions to The Hindu Relief Fund. The entire amount was made over to the Chief Minister’s Public Relief Fund. The contributions from the newspaper group’s employees amounted to a little more than ₹10 lakh.
The Chief Minister mentioned to Mr. Ram about the considerable progress made in the relief and rehabilitation work in the cyclone affected districts.
Mr. Ram, in turn, wished the Chief Minister and his administration success in the task of extending support to the affected people.
