A man has been killed in a house fire in NSW's Lower Hunter Region.

Emergency services were called to the unit at East Maitland about 2am on Saturday and the body of a 53-year-old man was found inside once the fire was extinguished.

Inquiries into the fire continue however it does not appear to be suspicious and a report will be prepared for the coroner.
