Australia skipper Aaron Finch won the toss and opted to bat against India in the first One Day International (ODI) of the three-match rubber at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG).

For Australia, left-arm pacer Jason Behrendorff made his ODI debut, while right-arm pacer Peter Siddle made a return in 50-over cricket after a gap of 169 matches since November 2010.
On the other hand, Indian skipper Virat Kohli opted for the two spinners with chinaman Kuldeep Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja, who is coming back in the side, alongwith three pacers.
At the end of the 50 overs Australia scored 288 losing 5 wickets. Peter Handscomb top scored with a brisk 73 runs of 61 deliveries.
Usman Khawaja and Shaun Marsh with scores of 59 and 53 respectively contributed significantly to the scoreboard. Not to forget a solid 47 by Marcus Stoinis and a breezy 11 by Glenn Maxwell off just 5 deliveries that added more meat to the score.
From the Indian bowlers, Mohammed Shami was the most economical though he was not lucky to pick any wicket. He was impressive with an economy rate of just 4.6 at the end of his quota of 10 overs. Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Kuldeep Yadav picked 2 wickets each and Ravindra Jadeja picked up one.
