Power thief poses as cop, exposed
Ashish Roy | tnn | Jan 13, 2019, 05:25 ISTNagpur: The attempt of a power pilferer to pose as a cop to prevent his disconnection fell flat when SNDL exposed him. The franchisee staffers not only disconnected his commercial lawn but lodged a police complaint against him.
An SNDL team recently went to KRC Lawn on Mankapur Ring Road to disconnect the power supply. The owner Ayaz Ali Syed had not paid Rs 8 lakh since years.
“When our team reached the lawn, the owner was not present. He was informed by his employee. Syed rang up the team head and told him that he (Syed) was police inspector Shinde. He threatened of dire consequences if his supply was not restored. He even said he would arrest the team head from his residence,” said an SNDL spokesperson.
However, the caller ID on the team head’s mobile phone showed Syed’s real name. The SNDL team did not restore his power supply and lodged a complaint against him in Gittikhadan police station.
The spokesperson said that three months ago when a team had gone to Syed’s establishment, he had expressed his inability to pay Rs 8 lakh and offered to pay Rs 50,000 through a cheque.
“He promised to pay the remaining amount soon. However, the cheque bounced. ” he added.
Left with no option SNDL disconnected the supply. Now, it has come to light that Syed has two meters at his residence and has not paid the bills of both since months. The franchisee staffers have disconnected his residence too.
