Congress not strong enough to take on BJP alone: Antony

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Former Kerala CM AK Antony told Congress workers here on Friday that the party has realised that it is not strong enough to take on BJP single-handedly in the ensuing Lok Sabha elections.

"Congress alone cannot bring down Narendra Modi from power. But still, Congress is the crucial force to lead the campaign to oust Modi from power. Hence, Congress is looking for a broader alliance to defeat BJP," Antony said, while addressing the general body of the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee.

Congress chief Rahul Gandhi, Antony said, has evolved as a strong leader to take on Modi and is now capable of putting up a brave fight. "That is why Modi fears Rahul," he added. The Congress veteran described the upcoming Lok Sabha elections as a "Kurukshetra battle" saying communal forces must be ousted from power to save the country.
