Man, three minors arrested for sexually assaulting woman, 32

TRICHY: Police arrested four people including three minors on charges of sexually assaulting a 30-year-old woman near Papanasam in Thanjavur district on Thursday. According to police, the woman was a resident of Papanasam and her husband was working abroad. The accused, Venkatesan, 32, a native of Gopurajapuram near Papanasam, had borrowed money from the woman’s husband.
As her husband was away, she had been asking Venkatesan to repay the money for a long time, police sources said. Recently, Venkatesan contacted the woman and asked her to come over to Gopurajapuram and that he would settle the borrowed money. However, when the woman went to Venkatesan’s house, he sexually assaulted her along with his three minor friends who hailed from Sundaraperumalkoil and Kottaicherri villages. Moreover, the accused also snatched her 5 sovereign gold chain at knife-point, police said.

Based on a complaint lodged by the victim, Papanasam police registered a case and arrested Venkatesan along with his three minor friends. Further investigations are on, police said.
