Action against sand mafia in Mumbra, Thane

THANE: The revenue department swooped down on the sand dredging mafia operating in the middle of the Thane creek on Friday and managed to seize and destroy their equipment, collectively worth several crores.
While the workers involved in dredging managed to escape by the time the officials reached the spot in the middle of the creek, around 200m away from the shores, near Mumbra, the raiding team nevertheless managed to seize the huge barges and pump-mounted boats from the creek near the Reti bunder area in Mumbra.
The equipment used by the mafia was seized and destroyed in the middle of the creek so that they would not be retrieved and reused.
The process of lodging a complaint with the Mumbra police was underway till late on Friday evening.
