Tribal university to function from next academic year

The State Government has resolved to commence operations of the Tribal University proposed at Jakaram near Mulugu in the erstwhile Warangal district from the next academic year.

Chief Secretary S.K. Joshi instructed the officials concerned to start classes for six courses offered in the university with student strength of 30 in each course. The officials should utilise the available infrastructure at Youth Training Centre at Jakaram for commencing the classes.

The Hyderabad Central University officials were asked to take up construction of temporary facilities at the venue. Classes should be started in the streams of B.A (hotel management), BCA, MCA, MBA (marketing, packaging with special reference to forest produce), BBA and Masters in Tribal Culture Folklore. Steps should be taken to provide 30% supernumerary seats for the local tribal youth in the university, he said.

The Tribal Welfare Department had been directed to provide ₹ 10 crore for taking up land acquisition for the university and efforts should be made to conduct programmes relating to tribal culture in line with the provisions of the Forest Act.

Principal Secretaries of Higher Education, Tribal Welfare and Forest Department should be appointed as members of the governing committee, the Chief Secretary said exhorting officials concerned to prepare an action plan in this direction.
