Engineer ‘uncle’ lures minor home, rapes her

Representative imageGURUGRAM: A 47-year-old engineer was arrested on Thursday for allegedly raping his nine-year-old neighbour multiple times. Police said that he had confessed to the crime and would be produced in a city court on Friday.
Originally from Andhra Pradesh, the engineer was working with an Udyog Vihar-based private company as a mechanical engineer. He and the child’s family live in the same building in the city. According to the child’s mother, her daughter had left the room around 10.30pm on Wednesday to go to the toilet. “When she didn’t return after 15 minutes, I stepped out of the room and called for her. Hearing me, the accused pushed my child out of his room. She told me that ‘uncle’ had forcibly dragged her to his room and tried to undress her. He had lured her to his room several times in the past under the pretext of showing her cartoons or giving chocolates to her and raped her,” she added.
The next morning, the girl’s parents confronted the engineer and thrashed him. He fled and they approached police. An FIR was registered under sections 323 (causing hurt) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC and Section 6 (punishment for aggravated penetrative sexual assault) of the POCSO Act at Sector 29 police station. The engineer was arrested late on Thursday evening.
