The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) chargesheeted Nalini Chidambaram, wife of Congress leader and former Union minister P Chidambaram, in the Saradha chit fund case claiming she accepted a bribe of Rs 1.4 crore.
As per the the chargesheet, which was filed in the special CBI court in the Barasat court in Kolkata, “she entered into a criminal conspiracy with Sudipta Sen, the proprietor of the Saradha group, and other accused persons to cheat and misappropriate funds of the Saradha group of companies.
The agency has alleged that Manoranjana Sinh, the estranged wife of former Union minister Matang Sinh, introduced Sen to Nalini Chidambaram “to manage probes by various agencies like Securities and Exchange Board of India, Registrar of Companies and Economic Offence Investigation Wing of West Bengal against the companies of Saradha group for which she allegedly received Rs 1.4 crore during 2010-12 through his companies.
It was further alleged that Nalini took help of Consultants to get exit and consent plans approved and scuttle the probe. She also managed to get Contingency plans approved.
Also Sen claims that Manoranjana Sinh took him to Chennai to meet Nalini, who "pressurised" him to invest Rs 42 crore in a Northeast TV channel. The chargesheet, the sixth in the Saradha scam, was filed in a special court in Kolkata.
The Saradha group had raised Rs 2,500 crore from the public luring them with attractive interest rates and the borrowed money was not repaid. Sen had closed operations of the company in 2013 after failing to pay Rs 1900 crore returns.
In this chargesheet, Anubhuti Printers and Publications Private Limited and Sen are co-accused along with Nalini Chidambaram.
