Gov. Evers glad to see a 'change of heart' from Assembly Republicans

Bond.

Thanks adam.

We're learning more tonight... about what state lawmakers plan to prioritize in 2019.

Republican leaders say they plan to reconvene later this month... and hope to find some common ground with governor tony evers.

Rose schmidt explains how they plan to do that.

Governor evers plans to sit down with republican lawmakers in both houses for a joint caucus next week... in a rare sighting of bipartisanship and collaborattion.

But a spokesperson for the governor says actions speak louder than words.

((( , "00:00:22 my first goal would be -- let's do what we've done in the past, which is to find areas of consensus and work together 27 "))) assembly speaker robin vos is extending an olive branch to new democratic governor tony evers.... in the form of a letter listing 11 top priorities for the year.

Assembly republicans picked issues that they're hoping won't create divides and contrasts between the two parties.

((( , " 23:34:27we're going to have plenty of those fights over the next two years 30 but it certainly doesn't have to be in the first week 32 "))) governor evers.... while touring a dmv office in wausau today... responded to the republicans' letter... 15:35:45 i'm glad to see there's some change of heart 47 tongue and cheek saying that --because many of the things that the speaker put in his letter have been kind of rculating around the legislature for some time 58 one issue republicans name as a top priority is transportation... .

Evers reiterating that he intends to fufill campaign promises after touring the state... 15:29:59 at those listening sessions people reiterated their belief thart it is time to do something about difeent as it relateds to infratureus 08 roads 10 vos says it's important to address the debt level in the transportation fund... but won't say yet what he'll agree to... because he's waiting for evers to introduce his state budget.... ((( , " 1:12 i don't want to pick a number, i want to let him have his ideas, sit down with his own department figure out what his positions are because of course he's new to the job i respect that 21 "))) speaker vos says his goal is to use the budget evers creates... but made it clear republicans will likely be forced to create their own budget if evers proposes raising income taxes.

Evers says ultimately -- he wants input from the public... ((( , "15:36:45 too many times it's behind closed doors or too many times it's less than transparent 51 it's our hope to kind of open that up and amking sure that the people of wisconsin understand 56 what is in the budget 57 "))) other areas where vos says he feels republicans can work with evers are... cutting income taxes, expanding internet access and coverage for pre-existing conditions.

Thanks
