Cape Town - Local rapper and TV personality Nomuzi Mabena has confirmed that Thursday's Instagram Live video, which shows her being involved in an apparent car crash, was staged and part of marketing campaign.
Following the alleged accident The Juice reached out to Nomuzi's PR team to confirm whether or not the rapper had been injured, but they refused to comment at the time, saying that a statement would be released concerning the matter.
Nomuzi quickly reached the top of Twitter's trending list, with many of her fan's worried about the musician's well-being.
14 hours after the alleged accident, Nomuzi confirmed on social media that the stunt was part of an elaborate Drive Dry campaign.
"I partnered with @Volkswagen and @DriveDry to make a change in 2019. We don't want to see another year where thousands of lives are lost on our roads because of drinking & driving," she tweeted.
"Our intention was never to distress any fans, friends or family. For just these few hours for people to pause and think what if this was the reality. I give my all to my fans and I had to do something to get people to sit up and notice. We were willing to risk it all to drive home this critical message. If this saves one life, then we were successful and I would do it again," Nomuzi said in a press statement.
Along with the tweet, Nomuzi also shared a video explaining the campaign, and shows behind-the-scenes footage of the staging of the accident.
The campaign has been met with mixed reactions from the online community.
