Bhogi bucket challenge begins in Madurai

MADURAI: Bhogi bucket challenge, an initiative undertaken by Madurai Corporation in association with KuppaiKaaran organisation to ensure that the waste is disposed in a smoke-free manner during the Bhogi season, was inaugurate here on Friday. Corporation commissioner Aneesh Sekhar presided over the inauguration event.
During the 10-day challenge – from January 11 to January 20 – people can dispose waste, which are usually burnt on the day of Bhogi, in 50 bins that have been put up across the city by the civic authority. Every resident who pursues this would be provided a cloth bag as means of encouragement.
The general public could dispose waste materials including old clothes, e-wastes, unused plastics, tyres and so on in the 50 collection points including at corporation schools, bus stands, ward offices and residential areas.
Representatives from KuppaiKaaran said they would ensure that the collected waste would be recycled in a proper manner.
