Newcastle Knights powerhouse Tautau Moga has been charged with assault after he allegedly slapped a taxi driver.
The 25-year-old is alleged to have slapped the driver in the head twice after stepping into the taxi on Boxing Day, Daily Telegraph reported.
Moga had been out with another man on the night when the pair were refused entry into a King Street, Newcastle pub.
The pair then got into a taxi when the alleged attack took place.
'Police from Newcastle City Police District were notified and attended a short time later. The 25-year-old man was arrested and taken to Newcastle police station,' a police statement said.
'The man was issued with an infringement notice for fail to quit licenced premises. Following further inquires on Wednesday the man was charged by way of future court attendance notice for common assault.'
The pair then got into a taxi when the alleged attack took place.

Moga will front Newcastle Local Court on March 21.
His appearance will come six days after his team goes into its round one clash against Cronulla.
The Newcastle Knights in a brief statement on Friday said it was made aware of the incident and alerted the NRL integrity unit 'at an appropriate time'.
'The club is co-operating with the NSW Police and no further comment will be made.'
Moga's arrest comes after a series of charges have been made against rugby league players during the sport's off-season.
St George/Illawarra Dragon's star Jack De Belin was charged over an alleged sexual assault of a 19-year-old woman at Wollongong in December.

He was granted conditional bail to appear at Wollongong Local Court on February 12.
Jarryd Hayne was charged with aggravated sexual assault and inflicting actual bodily harm in November. His lawyer told a court last month Hayne intends to plead not guilty.
Manly Sea Eagles star Dylan Walker was charged with assaulting his partner at a home on Sydney's northern beaches on December 6. Walker has pleaded not guilty.
Penrith Panthers halfback Liam Coleman and West Tigers recruit Zane Musgrove were both charged over the alleged indecent assault of a 22-year-old woman at Coogee Bay Hotel, in Sydney's eastern suburbs, in November.
Both players were granted conditional bail to appear at Waverley Local Court on January 23.
NRL star Scott Bolton, 31, recently pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of common assault against a woman at Bondi Beach Public Bar in May last year.
