Surat: To ensure safety of commuters during Uttarayan festival, especially two-wheeler riders, Surat police have banned their entry on flyovers across the city for two days from January 14.

A notification in this connection was issued by assistant police commissioner, special branch, Vinay Shukla stating that entry of two-wheelers will be banned on flyovers during the two days of Uttarayan festival. The two-wheeler riders will be able to commute below the flyovers.

Sources said sharp-edged manja and kites dangle from overhead wires and poles on flyovers, which could prove dangerous for the two-wheeler riders.

“The entry of two-wheelers has been banned on the flyovers for two days for the safety and security of the riders. However, cars and other vehicles will be allowed to pass through the flyovers. The two-wheeler riders are advised to take extra precautions while riding on the roads during the Uttarayan festival,” a police officer said.
