Sher Ali Shaikh, the pedestrian, was walking down Malad Link Road last Sunday after a job interview he had gone for got cancelled. The FIR stated that Shaikh claimed the side mirror of a sedan brushed him, following which he yelled at the motorist. The sedan halted and the two men had a heated exchange of words. After the sedan left, Shaikh continued to walk but the motorist took a U-turn and hit Shaikh, dragging him for some distance, before fleeing.

A delivery boy jotted down the registration number of the sedan as it left. A police officer went to the RTO with the registration number and tracked down the sedan to Jadhav’s residence. Jadhav admitted that he had hit Shaikh but told police that it was the outcome of Shaikh pelting stones on his vehicle. “According to Jadhav’s statement, Shaikh clashed with him twice and yelled expletives. He also threw stones twice at the sedan. Due to the absence of cameras, police have been unable to verify the exact sequence of events on the day of the incident,” a police officer said.

Jadhav is likely to apply for bail shortly as the charges applied are bailable. Shaikh, who suffered a pelvic fracture and a ruptured urethra, is waiting for other injuries to heal before he can undergo surgery, doctors at KEM Hospital had said on Thursday.
