Man feared drowned in Siswan dam

MOHALI: A 25-year-old man is feared to have drowned in waters of Siswan dam in Mullanpur on Wednesday evening. He had gone there to swim.
Police said Karan, a native of Uttar Pradesh, had consumed liquor with five of his friends before he jumped into the dam. When he did not come out, his friends panicked and called up the police.
On being informed, cops launched a search operation, but failed to find him.
Karan was living in a rented accommodation in Dasmesh Nagar, Nayagaon.
Police said that after consuming liquor, the youth removed his clothes and jumped into dam. When he did not come out, others with him panicked and called cops.
“The incident took place at 5pm on Wednesday when six youths were consuming liquor near the dam. After drinking liquor, Karan told others youth that he wanted to swim. Others tried to stop him but couldn’t as by the time he had already removed his clothes,” the cops said.
“We received a call at 5pm on Wednesday, following which a team from Mullanpur police station reached the spot and started the search operation. We are still trying to find his body. Further action in the case will be taken once the body is found,” said investigation officer assistant sub-inspector Talwinder Singh.
