Hawthorn's Brownlow medallist Tom Mitchell left training in an ambulance on Friday after suffering a suspected broken leg in an innocuous incident at Waverley Park.

The Hawks confirmed he had been taken to hospital with a leg injury but they remain uncertain as to the exact nature of the injury with a club doctor accompanying Mitchell to hospital.

It was the Hawks' first training session after the Christmas break and the 25-year-old was completing a regular drill when the incident occurred.
