Hyderabad: Four killed, 4 injured as car rams into ambulance

HYDERABAD: Four persons travelling in an ambulance died while four others suffered injuries after a speeding car rammed into an ambulance on the Outer Ring Road (ORR) at Adibhatla on the outskirts of Hyderabad in the wee hours of Friday.
The deceased were identified as, Venkateshwar Rao, 60, of Gangavati in Bellary district of Karnataka, Subba Laxmi, 55, Rama Rao, 65, and the ambulance driver, Shiva, 35, of Eluru in Andhra Pradesh.
The mishap occurred at 3am when the family of Venkateshwar Rao was travelling from Eluru town in Andhra Pradesh to Gangavathy in Karnataka's Bellary district in an ambulance after obtaining medical treatment for Venkateshwar Rao.
When the ambulance reached near Wondela in Adibhatla, a Tata Hexa car (TS 09 EZ 0801) coming from Shamshabad overshot the median due to the negligence of the driver, Manoj, and rammed into the ambulance.
Venkateshwar Rao and his wife Subba Laxmi died on the spot while ambulance driver, Shiva, was declared brought dead at the Osmania General Hospital. Venkateshwar's brother Rama Rao succumbed to injuries while undergoing treatment at the hospital.
Four others including, Venkateshwar's son, Hemachander Rao, his brother-in-law Srinivas, second driver of the ambulance, Thohit and car driver Manoj suffered injuries. At the time of the accident, there were seven people in the ambulance and six persons were in the Tata Hexa car.
Adibhtla police registered a case under sections 304 (A) and 337 of the IPC.
