Will pursue strategic autonomy policy\, says foreign secretary

NEW DELHI: Foreign secretary Vijay Gokhale on Thursday emphasised that India will continue to pursue the policy of strategic autonomy without joining any bloc or ideology.

Speaking at the Raisina Dialogue, Gokhale noted that while India is no longer in the 1950s and part of Non-Aligned Movement, it will continue to a pursue a policy of strategic autonomy by working with various countries and groupings. The foreign secretary said Indian foreign policy will continue to pursue policies based on national interests. Referring to current multilateralism, Gokhale said India is still not part of the rule-making process in either World Trade Organization or United Nations Security Council.
