2020 Toyota Supra: Here’s A Whole Lot More Of It

The 2020 Toyota Supra is set to be unveiled at the North American International Auto Show next month, but it appears the company has accidentally spoiled the surprise.

According to a member of the SupraMKV forums, Toyota Germany sent these two images after they signed up to join the Supra waiting list. We attempted to replicate the scenario, but our confirmation e-mail only included two camouflaged pictures of the car.

With that caveat out of the way, let’s examine the photos. The front of Supra features three large air intakes and a set of slender LED headlights. We can also see a front splitter and canards which were revealed by an uncamouflaged model earlier this month.

Moving further back, we can see front fender vents and a rakish windscreen. The Supra also features a double bubble roof, aerodynamic side skirts and lightweight wheels that are backed up by a high-performance braking system.

Behind the muscular haunches is a sporty rear end which has a prominent spoiler and slender taillights. We can also see an aggressive rear bumper with an integrated diffuser and an F1-inspired central brake light. Other notable features include a dual exhaust system and rear canards.

While the latest batch of photos doesn’t show the interior, we have a pretty good idea of what to expect thanks to numerous leaks and spy photos. Drivers will sit behind a three-spoke steering wheel and find themselves facing a digital instrument cluster. Owners will also find slender air vents, a free-standing infotainment system and a number of metallic accents.

Toyota has been tight-lipped on technical specifications, but Supra chief engineer Tetsuya Tada has already confirmed the car will be powered by a BMW-sourced engine as inline-sixes are one “non-negotiable attribute” about the car. In the BMW Z4 M40i, the engine produces 382 hp (284 kW / 387 PS) and 369 lb-ft (500 Nm) of torque.  This enables the roadster to run from 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) in just 4.4 seconds.

We can also expect adaptive dampers and an electric limited slip rear differential. The model is also slated to have a 50/50 weight distribution and a body that is nearly as rigid as the Lexus LFA.

*Update –  Of course, we knew we hadn’t heard or seen the last of the Supra-leaks, and indeed, Toyota Mexico itself spilled more beans tonight by (mistakenly?) Tweeting a revealing video of the rear-wheel drive sports coupe on the move. Our friends at Jalopnik grabbed some schreenshots too, which we’ve shared below, in case, you know, someone removes the Tweet.
