India has granted consular access to British national Christian Michel, who was brought to New Delhi from the UAE last month in connection with the ₹3,600-crore AgustaWestland chopper deal scam.
The British High Commission had sought consular access to Mr. Michel after he was arrested in December first week. It is learnt that it was granted on January 10.
“Consular access has been granted to Michel,” Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Raveesh Kumar said.
Mr. Michel (57) is now lodged in the Tihar jail. It is learnt that consular access to Mr. Michel was granted on Thursday.
Mr. Michel is one of the three middlemen, being probed by the CBI and the Enforcement Directorate in the case, besides Guido Haschke and Carlo Gerosa. Mr. Michel has denied the charges.
