An IGA supermarket has been evacuated after a 'sketchy device' with wires hanging off it was found on a shelf.

The frightening discovery was made by staff at Carlo's Supa IGA in Tamborine Mountain, Queensland, as the store opened at about 7am on Friday.

Police spent nearly an hour at the scene before declaring the device was just a power pack for an advertising display.

'An apparent suspect device located at the IGA is actually a power pack for an advertising display,' Queensland Police tweeted.
