Karnataka: CID busts wildlife trafficking gang in Udupi

BENGALURU: The forest cell of Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has cracked a major poaching gang and have seized 19 deer horns and two antlers in Kundapura in Udupi district on Thursday.


According to the sources the arrested gang members are Uday, Ravi, Deepak, Ravichandra Shetty and Girish, aged between 32-35 , residents of Kundapura.


Based on a credible information, the CID police in the disguise of potential buyers have made a deal with the accused to buy deer horns and antlers. They carried it in an Omni van and were nabbed around 2pm. The police registered a case at regional forest office and the probe is underway.


The police said that the total weight of the horns and antlers is around 50 kgs. We are yet to know from where they got these organs.


CID forest cell Sub-inspectors H K Ravi Kumar, M S Ramamurthy, police constables Hemakumar and Paramesh nabbed the accused.
