The Tamil Nadu Police has launched online police verification services for the benefit of citizens and private companies seeking the help of law enforcers to verify the background of people they plan to engage as domestic help and antecedents of tenants and job-seekers to ensure that they are not involved in any criminal case in police records.

The online verification facility can be availed by public and private companies by logging on to the website www.eservices.tnpolice. gov.in

However, the facility is applicable only for residents in Tamil Nadu. The introduction of the new service will now obviate the need for citizens of the State and private companies to visit a police station for verification of self, job, tenant and domestic help.

The main aim of the police verification services is to verify the identity of the person, his/her current address and check if he or she was involved in any criminal case in available records, Commissioner of Police A. Amalraj told reporters here on Wednesday.

The State police has crime data from 1980 onwards in its Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems, Mr. Amalraj said.

The charge for availing the facility is ₹500 per application for individuals and ₹1,000 for private companies. The applicants can pay the amount online using credit card/debit card/net banking.

The police verification will be completed within 15 days from the date of receipt of the application. Citizens/private companies can download the police verification report through the website. A copy of the verification report will be sent to the registered e-mail ID of the applicant as well.

The genuineness of the police verification report can be checked by scanning the QR code given on it and also through the “Verify” option available on the website. The status of the online application can be tracked using the police verification report number.

The consent letter of the person to be verified is mandatory for availing the facility except for ‘self-verification’ in order to prevent frivolous applications, said a police press note.

If the information/document furnished is incorrect, the application will be rejected without refund. Furnishing false information to police is punishable under law, it further said.

The applicant can lodge his/her grievances through the “Feedback” option present on the website. The feedback will be sent automatically to the e-mail ID of the Superintendent of Police/Commissioner of Police in districts/commissionerates for corrective action.

Integration with Common Service Centers is in progress to facilitate those who do not have access/knowledge of internet for availing the services, the press note further said.
