16-year-old boy hitches ride home, run over by truck

Representative image CHENNAI: A Class XII student died on Tuesday after being run over by a truck when the biker with whom he hitched a ride met with an accident.
The deceased, 16-year-old G Bharath Kumar of Alapakkam near Periyapalayam, was riding pillion with Pramoth Kumar, 18.
Around 6:30pm on the way to Bharath's home, Pramoth tried to overtake a truck on Vada Madurai Koot Road near Periyapalayam when he collided with a bike coming in the opposite direction.
Pramoth sustained multiple fractures on the leg and the man riding the other bike Muniyandi, 32, and his daughter Malar, 10, were also injured. Bharath fell on his left and was run over by the truck. The truck driver abandoned the vehicle and fled.
The injured were sent to the government hospital in Tiruvallur. Bharath is survived by his mother Nirmala, a coolie, and brother Sarath Kumar, a Class X student.
