PANCHKULA: On Wednesday, the civil hospital in Sector 6 reported a suspected case of swine flu. The patient is a resident of Panchkula. The patient has been taken care of and his family has also been disinfected by the team from general hospital.
To prevent an outbreak, chief medical officer (CMO), General Hospital, Sector 6, Yogesh Sharma, said that they have formed a team of ANM — aangan wadi and asha workers — who will visit houses and create awareness among residents. Various teams have been sent to rural areas as well to spread awareness
CMO also informed that the symptoms of swine flu or influenza or H1N1 virus are similar to that of normal viral like fever.
One has to pay attention to more persistent symptoms like nausea, headache, low blood pressure, chest pain, vomiting, diarrhea, bruises and breathing problem to prevent wrong diagnosis.
According to the CMO, a person can protect himself, if he follows some basic precautions like not shaking hands and not taking medicines without prescription. One should also not spit and cough openly in public. “80% of the cases can be saved, if the individual takes some precautions no matter what kind of flu he/she has,” said the CMO.
The hospital has an isolation ward prepared for H1N1 patients, tablet named Tami Flu is available round the clock at the hospital.
