Chippa sack THIRD head coach in 2018/19 campaign

2019-01-10 08:00

Cape Town - Chippa United, on Wednesday sacked interim coach Joel Masutha after he failed to secure a win in five games at the helm, and have replaced him with former Golden Arrows mentor Clinton Larsen.

Masutha, who was previously fired by Black Leopards earlier this season was shown the door following the Chilli Boys' 4-2 defeat against Orlando Pirates in an Absa Premiership clash on Tuesday.

The East London-based side have yet to officially announce the change to their technical team.

New Chippa CEO, Morgan Mammila confirmed the news to KickOff, saying that they needed to act swiftly as the cub languishes at the bottom of the league table.

"I gave a recommendation to the management, looking at the stats of the team," Mammila said.

"We have conceded more goals in the past 10 games, and I said we need to act as soon as possible if we want to get out of relegation.

"We are busy finalising and we will release a statement at 16:30 when we finish what we are doing.

"At the end of the day we are concentrating more on the benefit of the team."

This is remarkably the third management change that trigger-happy owner Chippa Mpengesi has made this season, with Chippa having only played 17 league games in the 2018/2019 campaign.

Chippa became the first Absa Premiership team to blink when they sacked head coach Dan Malesela after just three games.

His replacement, Eric Tinkler lasted just a further nine games with the team at that stage on 10 points after 12 games. The club have now kept along the same vein with Masutha's departure.
