Genesis GV80 SUV Spied In Korea, Should Debut Later This Year

Hyundai, Kia and Genesis are tipped to launch no less than 13 new products and derivatives this year. Among them, we will find the latter’s first-ever SUV,  which is believed to maintain the GV80 moniker of the concept shown two years ago in New York.

Rumored to debut in the coming months, the new high-riding vehicle was spied in South Korea not long ago. The images, shared by PostNaver, reveal an imposing design for the GV80, with the brand’s grille dominating the front end, a coupe-like profile for a more dynamic shape and what seems to be a clean tailgate design.

The camouflage prevents us from seeing further details. However, it appears that Genesis has kept some of the styling elements of the GV80 Concept that was presented at the 2017 New York Auto Show, such as the four-point lighting signature, which has nonetheless become a tad bigger in the production model.

Previous reports indicated that it’s underpinned by the same platform that’ll be used in the next G80. A 3.3-liter V6, rated at approximately 365 hp (370 PS / 272 kW), and a 5.0-liter V8, making roughly 420 hp (425 PS / 313 kW) are believed to be on the agenda.

That’s a big departure from the study’s plug-in hydrogen powertrain, but fuel cell and/or PHEV engines could be in the pipeline.

Further down the road, the company’s venture into new territories might include yet another SUV, probably of smaller size, as well as a sporty coupe.
