KOLKATA: A gang of armed robbers held a petrol pump employee at gunpoint, thrashed him and fled with Rs 45,000 in cash in Deganga in the early hours of Wednesday.

According to cops, three armed youths in their late 30s - with their faces covered - raided the petrol pump off Taki Road at Garpara around 4.30am when Mirazul Baidya was alone on the site. "When he refused to hand over the cash, they beat him up and took the money," said petrol pump owner Hazi Abdul Nayeem. "We are investigating whether some local criminals were involved. The CCTV footage from the pump is being checked," said an officer.
