THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The BJP's relay indefinite hunger strike over the Sabarimala issue reached 38th day on Wednesday. Mahlila Morcha president V T Rama had joined the strike in front of state secretariat on Tuesday.
Rama sat on the strike after party vice president P K Velayudhan was arrested and shifted to medical college following health problems.
Rama is the second woman leader to join the strike after BJP state general secretary Sobha Surendran.
The BJP has been staging the strike demanding withdrawal of all restrictions imposed in Sabarimala, dropping of police cases against BJP/RSS workers who had taken part in strikes and protest programmes and action against police officers responsible for manhandling devotees on several occasions during the ongoing pilgrimage season. Sources said the BJP would continue the strike till the end of this year's pilgrim season, which will fall on mid-January.
Police and BJP workers chased and caught a CITU worker who hurled stones at the BJP protest pandal around midnight on Tuesday.
"The person who came out from the protest pandal of the joint trade union shouted something against the BJP and threw a stone. Since a fairly large number of policemen were posted in front of the protest venue, they chased and caught him. It was only by providence that those who were in the protest venue escaped unhurt," said BJP state secretary A K Sajeevan.
