Road blocked to protest against Doranda killing

RANCHI: Angry residents on Wednesday blocked the Namkum-Ghaghra road for over three hours from 10am to protest against the murder of one Shamu Oroan near Bada Ghaghra village under Doranda police station area on Tuesday night. Shankar Oraon, secretary of a local gram sabha, also sustained bullet injuries in the incident and is undergoing treatment at Rims. Shankar and Samu were coming on a bike from Kusai village when unidentified criminals shot at them from behind. Samu died on the spot while Shankar was critically injured after receiving two bullet injuries.
Congress leader and a resident of Doranda area, Alok Dubey, who participated in the protest, said the criminals were committing daring crimes owing to police inaction. He added that another land dealer, Anil Kispotta, was killed in Doranda police station area on December 29 but police did not take up the case.
The protesters submitted a memorandum to the administration demanding arrest of the culprits within 24 hours, payment of monetary aid of Rs 25 lakhs to the victim’s family, installation of street lights and CCTV cameras, closure of liquor shop near Kusai crossing and round-the-clock police patrolling. SP (city) Sujata Veenapani and the local circle officer later intervened and requested the people to withdraw the agitation.
