The NCW notes that the comments are "misogynistic, offensive and unethical and shows an extreme disrespect towards the dignity and honour of a woman."

The National Commission for Women issued a notice to Congress President Rahul Gandhi on January 10 for his "misogynistic and offensive" remarks against Defence Minister Nirmala Seetharaman.

The NCW has sought an explanation from Mr. Gandhi for saying, "the PM ran away and asked a Mahila — a veiled reference to Defence Minister Nirmala Seetharaman — to defend him" as well as for telling the PM to "be a man and answer my question."

The NCW notes that the comments are "misogynistic, offensive and unethical and shows an extreme disrespect towards the dignity and honour of a woman."

While such notices, as well as summons, are always written on the letterhead of the Chairperson of the National Commission as well as signed by the person holding the office, this letter is signed by an Under Secretary.
