BEST strike continues; workers get MESMA, 'leave quarters' notices

The BEST strike continued on Wednesday, and seemed set to roll into the third day on Thursday, inconveniencing more than 25 lakh commuters daily and causing a total revenue loss of Rs 10 crore.

The union leader Shashank Rao says women residents of BEST staff quarters across Mumbai will take out the morcha to Wadala depot at 11 am.

The morcha is to oppose the notices issued to 2,000 families of BEST workers to vacate the staff quarters if the employees are not reporting to work.

Workers including drivers and conductors continue to gather in larger numbers outside bus depots and they expect some “positive results” today.

So far, four drivers have reported for duty but not a single bus is on road.
